This is one of the best and inspiring novels with a unique and impressive story. “R. J. Palacio” is the author of this amazing book, she wrote many beautiful books; her most famous novels are Auggie & Me, White Bird, 365 Days of Wonder. Wonder is the story of a 9 years boy Auggie Pullman, who suffers from a mandibulofacial dysostotic, a rare condition of abnormal bone development on his face, and despite many surgeries, he does not seem “normal”. His mother has homeschooled him so he doesn’t go outside from home, but when Auggie enters fifth grade, his mother is pressuring him to go to public school.

The story is told through various perspectives, starting with Auggie, who tells us how he has had to get used to the look of surprise that appears even on the faces of kind people when they see him for the first time. Parents are naturally anxious about how the other students will receive him and wonder if he will be able to experience true friendship. But he has to deal with a series of reactions to his unusual appearance. Some children use hateful language and some people suggest that Auggie has a mental disability. However, kindness wins, and readers should find it inspiring and uplifting. Author R.J. Palacio writes the book in multiple voices, Auggie’s, some of his friends, his sister’s, and the different points of view are mostly very well done and show the inner feelings of the different characters.

The wonder of RJ Palacio was amazing! This book is for grades 5-8, and adults would like it, this book can teach many different lessons. What caught your attention is not judging by someone’s appearance, but by the internal character of that person. It is one of the most poignant books on how the author wove so much complexity into a story for high school students. You really enjoy how this book flowed through different perspectives. Readers can see not only the lessons Auggie learns from his point of view but also the thoughts and feelings of the people around him. It touches so many lives and teaches to have basic compassion and humanity, and stop underestimating and discriminating differences between human being.
